Mancelona Child and Teen Honored with Life Safety Awards

A Mancelona child and teenager honored Sunday for their brave and courageous actions that saved lives.

Carson McCarthy and Marlee Scaggs were given Life Safety Sward from the Mancelona Fire Chief Sunday afternoon.

Back in January, Carson called 911 after his mother was unresponsive.

The chief says Carson’s calm and straight forward actions saved his mother’s life.

The two young heroes also live in an adjoining condo unit that caught fire back in march.

Carson was trapped inside his room at the time of the fire.

Marlee broke down his bedroom door and carried him to safety.

“I’m proud of both of them, and their families are proud of both of them and the community is proud of them. Keep up what they’re doing, and the good work, and being good examples for the kids and children at school,” said Chief Ed Sayre.

Their heroic actions may not stop here.

Marlee has expressed interest in being a firefighter

And Carson certainly enjoyed his time in the firetrucks
