St. Ignace Flooded with Hundreds of Jeeps for Annual Mackinac Bridge Crossing

Friday welcomed the first of many crossings on the Mackinac Bridge.

Almost 700 Jeeps made their way from St. Ignace to Mackinaw City.

Around 3 p.m. all of the Jeeps crossed the bridge for the 2017 Jeep the Mac.

It’s only the second year, but they already saw an increase of more than 200 Jeeps this year.

Drivers also get a chance to head to Drummond Island for the rest of the weekend.

The St. Ignace Visitors Bureau says it’s exciting start to the busy season.

"There’s something sort of surreal about watching, you know, 600 jeeps come over the bridge together," St. Ignace Visitors Bureau executive director Gina Stegehuis said. "There’s a real feeling of camaraderie with these people. I mean, we’ve got folks from Ohio, Indiana, they’re coming from all over to participate in this."
