Arkansas Carries Out First Execution Since 2005

The state of Arkansas has carried out its first execution in more than a decade.

Death row inmate Ledell Lee was put to death overnight, after he ran out of appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Lee was one of eight inmates the state wanted to execute before April 30.

That’s when its supply of one of the lethal injection drugs expires.

Three of the eight executions were put on hold earlier this week.

The Supreme Court ruled five to four to deny Lee a stay of execution.

In his first official Supreme Court decision, newly-appointed Justice Neil Gorsuch sided with the majority.
