New Poll Shows More Americans in Favor of Legalizing Marijuana

A brand new CBS poll released Thursday shows the number of Americans in favor of legalizing marijuana.

Sixty-one percent of people polled believed marijuana should be legal.

That’s a five-point increase over last year, and the highest percentage ever recorded in this specific poll.

Eighty percent favor medical marijuana use, which has been legal in Michigan since 2008.

According to New Frontier, a research company that analyzes the marijuana industry, sales of legal pot grew to $6.6 billion in 2016.

That includes $4.7 billion for medical marijuana and $1.9 billion for recreational.

Still, many opponents are not on board.

Marijuana continues to be identified by Congress and the DEA as a schedule one drug, under the same classification as drugs like LSD and heroin.
