Tax Day: How To Avoid Falling Victim To Scams

With taxes due Tuesday, scammers have been out in full force hunting for tax refund money.

We’re sharing some tips to help you make sure that doesn’t happen:

Almost all the scams come from a phone call or email.

Most of the criminals pose as government agencies and they’ll ask for personal information.

They may also claim that you owe taxes and aggressively demand payment quickly.

If you receive a phone call like this, hang up.

The State Treasurer says that no one will contact you initially by email or phone.

If you have received a call from a scammer, you are asked to report it to the IRS.
