United Way Releases ALICE Report

United Way has released their ALICE Report, shedding light on just how many people struggle to make ends meet in Northern Michigan.

ALICE stands for asset limited, income constrained, employed.

The report shows about 40 percent of people in the greater Grand Traverse Area struggle to make enough money to pay for housing, childcare and transportation.

Unemployment numbers are also higher than the state average.

It’s all information United Way uses to help those in need.

“What we want to reveal is that gap, the people that are just above poverty, but just below making ends meet. I think we need to recognize and really helping to fill the gaps and services,” said Ranae McCauley, Executive Director of United Way of Northwest Michigan.
