Glen Lake High School, Food For Thought Work Together In Recycling Initiative

“It’s going to take the cooperation of all the kids at the school to help segregate and make this work,” said Timothy Young, founder and president of Food For Thought.

Glen Lake High School and Students for World Awareness are doing their part to keep waste from going into landfills.

Envirothon is an extracurricular activity at the high school and one of their new projects is a recycling initiative.

Students will be volunteering during lunch and collecting data by sorting through trash after lunch, making sure everyone is using the right bins.

Food For Thought will be picking up the bins every week.

The school has also changed how they serve their food so there’s even less waste going to the landfill.

“They’re switching from disposable plates and disposable forks and they’re going back to stainless steel service ware and ceramic plates and then they are now segregating all the food scraps into separate bins so that we can capture it and bring it all here,” said Young.

Eventually Food For Thought will be taking 100 percent of all their food waste from both their kitchens and cafeteria.
