Mancelona Education Foundation Hosts 28th Annual Spaghetti Fundraiser

What started as a spaghetti dinner 28 years ago has become a yearly tradition for an entire community.

The Mancelona Education Foundation hosted its 28th Annual Spaghetti Fundraiser, drawing in hundreds of community members.

Everyone attending the event enjoyed live music, prize drawings and of course a plate full of spaghetti.

Proceeds from the dinner will go toward funding teaching grants and more than 15 local scholarships.

Foundation members say it’s grown from a small fundraiser to something everyone looks forward to each year.

“When I first started out, our auction was actually in the small cafeteria over at the elementary school. Then we moved to the cafeteria over here and now, we fill the gymnasium,” Dave Vanderploeg, president, Mancelona Education Foundation said.

The foundation hopes to beat last year’s donation total of $16,000, but say they’re accepting donations year round.
