Faulty Laptop Charger Causes Small Fire In Alpena Co. Apartment

Everyone is okay after a fire sparked at an Alpena County apartment.

Fire crews say the culprit is a faulty laptop charger.

Crews were called out to the two story home around two Friday morning in Alpena.

Firefighters got to the scene within two minutes, but the flames were already put out by the person renting the apartment.

The fire chief says a faulty laptop charger, on top of magazines started the fire.

He says it’s a simple mistake that could happen to anyone.

“The other tenants in that building heard the smoke alarm and smelled the smoke immediately and given that it was 2 a.m. it could have been a very dangerous fire,” Robert Adrian, Alpena Deputy Fire Chief said.

The fire chief urges people to check to make sure their devices are charging properly and away from combustible materials.
