World War II Veteran Celebrates His 98th Birthday In Petoskey

This World War II veteran has been sung “happy birthday” 98 times and he says celebrating with friends is the icing on the cake.

Lieutenant Colonel Woodrow Wilson is turning 98 on April 6th.

Tuesday night, family and friends spent the evening celebrating this milestone.

Woody served in the Air Force during World World II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

"I guess I’m glad to be as old as I am and still be able to move around," said Wilson.

Lieutenant Colonel Woodrow Wilson is better known as Woody. He spent Tuesday evening celebrating his 98th birthday at one of his favorite restaurants, Southwoods Pub and Grill in Petoskey.

"It means I’m getting older and older and I’d rather be getting younger and younger," said Wilson.

He doesn’t remember much about his time in the military, but his friends say he served in Air Force during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

His friends say it was important to make Woody feel special after serving our country for so many years and help him feel young again.

"It’s awesome,” said Merrie Addington, his caretaker. “I hope we celebrate a few more."

He lives near his four kids and grandkids and although Woody’s wife Margaret passed away, he says he will see her again.

"Nice with me when my wife was still alive and we would move around and now she’s long gone,” said Wilson. “Come up to a period where I might be able to see her again."

Woody’s friend Susan has known him for almost 30 years. She was reminiscing about the relationship he had with his wife.

"You could always tell even at the later age how much in love they were and the pictures are awesome that you can just see his glow when he looks at her," said Susan Casciani.
