Roscommon County Man Accused Of Sexually Abusing Several Children, More Charges Possible

"Nothing like this. It’s going to shake our community to the core."

This man is accused of sexually abusing several kids he knew.

Deputies say the extent of the crimes against children is unlike any they have ever seen.

The Roscommon County Sheriff’s Department opened the investigation a week and a half ago.

Deputies say several young victims came forward and there could be more.

Deputies made the sexual abuse arrest in Lake Township near Houghton Lake yesterday.

9&10’s Cody Boyer and photojournalist Jacob Johnson met with investigators and concerned parents and have the latest with what officers say was going on.

Details are limited but, right now, the Roscommon County Undersheriff says Adam Janvrin is accused of touching kids inappropriately (three counts of 2nd degree criminal sexual conduct), along with one count of 1st degree CSC with a child.

More victims could be out there.

“The investigation is ongoing,” says Undersheriff Ben Lowe. “And my guess is it will continue for quite a while."

Lowe says it started with several kids coming forward, all linked to Adam Janvrin.

“When you are talking about sexual abuse of children, it doesn’t get too much more serious than that,” Lowe says.

Lowe says Janvrin knew the children — and the children knew him.

Those who work with children who are victims of abuse say that can make it even harder.

“The majority of kids are being abused by someone they know, love and trust,” says Rebecca Yuncker, executive director, Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center. “They have a trusting relationship with parents usually trust the person who is abusing their child so it makes it more difficult."

“The effects it’ll have on those children will be lifelong trauma,” says Tammy Tyler, a concerned Roscommon County parent.

Tammy is a mother of nine and coordinator of the Roscommon County Child Protection Council.

“We take for granted coaching and acquaintances and barbecues and what not and who knows?" Tyler says. "It’ll definitely give parents a different perspective on who they trust with their kids."

Tammy says victims often keep quiet.if there are more victims out there.

She hopes they step forward.

“It’s devastating,” Tyler says. “It’s devastating for our community. This is going to affect every single person that has anything to do with the children that were affected by this situation."

Deputies say Janvrin was not previously a registered sex offender.
