A winter work of art will be returning to Cadillac this year, but it’s expected to be even bigger and better.
Years ago, the city of Cadillac grew an ice tree every winter, but then the tradition stopped.
Last year, the seed was planted once again when Cadillac’s utilities director Jeff Dietlin decided to start growing the ice tree again.
He says the experience last year taught him how to improve on the tree this time around.
“We made it last year, we used a real tree in it, it broke up halfway through the winter,” explains Jeff Dietlin, City of Cadillac Utilities Director. “So this year we redesigned it, and we’re trying it again. We actually put a water mane pipe in the middle and we’re actually running water through that and growing the ice tree so hopefully it’ll be stronger this year and won’t break off.”
The tree has started to grow, and will get bigger as the winter continues.
You can find it across the street from Lake Cadillac, next to the Blackburn Skate Park.
