Traverse City Ski Area Takes Advantage Of Recent Cold & Snow

The recent weather conditions are exactly what people in the snow-making business have been asking for.

Hickory Hills Ski Area in Traverse City plans to open Friday afternoon instead of in January like they did last year, thanks to the extreme cold and the snow it comes with.

Thursday they were working around the clock making snow, grooming the trails and putting up fences.

They’re expecting to have at least 4 trails open in time for snow enthusiasts Friday.

Manager Barry Smith says, “It couldn’t be any better. Usually we try to open the Friday before Christmas. This gives us a little head start on the Christmas Break, gives people a chance to get some skiing done before the holidays.”

Hickory Hills Ski Area opens Friday 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for details on slope conditions at your favorite ski spot click here.
