Grand Traverse Co. Commissioners Approve 2017 Budget, Commissioner Pay

Grand Traverse County commissioners needed to approve a budget by the end of the year and they did Wednesday night.

Commissioners got their first look at the budget at a study session just a week ago.

County administrators hoped to present the budget back in November, but several pages were deleted.

Wednesday night, they voted to approve the 2017 fiscal year budget.

This budget is balanced and won’t borrow money from their reserves.

Commissioners also discussed their own pay.

They hoped to help save the county money nine months ago by voting to take just $ a year, instead of more than $7,000 each.

But with a balanced 2017 budget, one commissioner wanted to revisit that motion.

Commissioners voted against that Wednesday night, keeping their pay at $1 for the 2017 fiscal year.
