A Thompsonville man is dead after the snowmobile he was operating crashed in Manistee County.

State police say speed and alcohol were a factor.

Troopers say it happened Friday afternoon just before 2:30 p.m. on a seasonal two track in Norman Township.

They say Edward Fraley was operating the snowmobile.

They say when Fraley came over a rise in the road a fallen tree was lying across the road and he tried to ditch the snowmobile which then slid sideways into the fallen tree.

He was taken to West Shore Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

A passenger on the snowmobile was also treated at the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
