Charlevoix County Man Found Guilty But Mentally Ill Of Manslaughter

After hours of deliberation, a Charlevoix County jury has found Matthew Fruge guilty but mentally ill of manslaughter.

Fruge was accused of stabbing his friend Jacob Conklin last October in Bay Township.

Fruge’s attorney argued he was not guilty by reason of insanity, saying he was insane at the time of the killing.

Thursday, the jury found Fruge guilty but mentally ill of manslaughter. That means he will go to a state prison and be under the supervision of mental assistance.

His sentencing is scheduled for January 13.
