MDOT Adds Flashing Light To Dangerous Grand Traverse County Crash Site

Tuesday, a new addition to a busy intersection in Grand Traverse County is meant to make it safer.

It’s a new flashing beacon light is supposed catch the attention of drivers.

The intersection at Blair Townhall Road and M-37 is notorious for accidents in Grand Traverse County.

Including the crash that killed 17-year-old Kelsey Purchase last summer on her way to the Northwestern Michigan Fair.

MDOT studied the intersection and have seen an increase in people going right through the stop sign.

And people along the road have been voicing their concerns that’s why they’re taking action.

Manager of MDOT Traverse City, Rick Liptak says, "There have been a variety of crashes here you know, a while back there was a fatality here and then there’s other crashes and when you start adding all that up we needed to do something to draw more attention to the intersection.”

By 2021 MDOT is also planning to add a turning lane on M-37 to make it even safer.
