Lake County Deputies Release New Details on Attempted Murder/Suicide

We have new details in a deadly shooting in Lake County.

Deputies are investigating this case as an attempted murder/suicide.

The Sheriff’s Department says William Zaluga and John Macleod got into an argument after a night of drinking.

They say Zaluga shot Macleod in the face before turning the gun on himself.

It all happened Friday night at Zaluga’s home in Elk Township.

They say Macleod went outside and when he came back in, Zaluga shot him.

Investigators found him dead inside the home, and Macleod is recovering in a downstate hospital.

The Undersheriff says the investigation took longer than expected because it took time to track down key witnesses.

“A lot of man hours, and a lot of good police work as far as with the deputies here in conjunction with the investigation, with assistance from the MSP crime lab who came out and processed the scene,” said Undersheriff Don Maiville.

A woman was in the home during the shooting, but was not there when police arrived on scene.
