A groundbreaking event on Thursday soon will help save lives.
McLaren Central Michigan is expanding its emergency department.
The Mount Pleasant hospital broke ground on the new 7,400 square foot addition Thursday.
It will nearly double the size of the current department.
The hospital says they’ve seen an increase in patients over the last three years.
The addition means they can see more patients and in bigger rooms.
The addition also includes specialized rooms to help staff.
“Adding extra space will allow us to get patients in and out of the emergency department in a more efficient manner, giving the patients a better experience through our department,” says emergency room facility medical director, Daniel Wilkerson.
McLaren Central Michigan has been an A-rated hospital for three consecutive years.
Construction on the new addition starts in the next few days.
It’s set to be complete by late spring 2017.
