Manistee Council on Aging Looking To Buy Former Oleson’s Property

A big project is in the works in Manistee County.

The Council on Aging wants to build a new facility on the old Oleson’s property.

Members of the Council on Aging signed a letter of intent to use the property to create a hub for senior services and housing.

The Manistee Council on Aging is looking to buy the property on Memorial Drive that was once the Oleson’s food stores.

They hope to create a facility for senior programs and services.

The council also wants to build a housing complex with about 50 units.

They say their current building isn’t big enough meet every seniors needs.

"This will give everybody, I think, new hope that we are looking towards everybody’s future. We are all aging, and I think it will be very good for the community,” says Sarah Howard, Manistee County Council on Aging.

There is also a pending deal that would add a retailer to the property.

Oleson’s in Manistee closed in July because it could not compete with other stores.
