A highway in Leelanau County is back open after closing for several hours Tuesday morning for a deadly crash.
State police says Tuesday morning’s dense fog may have played a role.
Troopers say a minivan traveling south on Maple City Road ran a stop sign.
It was hit by a semi truck on M-72.
The Michigan State Police say it appears the driver was disoriented or didn’t know there was a stop sign.
They urge drivers to be extremely cautious as weather conditions worsen.
“We have to remember we have to drive slower. Leave more room between you and the vehicle in front of you. Anticipate that something’s going to happen in front of you and you need to react,” says Trooper Mike Mihalic.
The driver died at the scene, but police aren’t releasing any names.
We have a crew at the scene working to get more details and will have those for you on air and online.
