Rep. Tom Leonard Elected as New Michigan House Speaker

We’re looking at transitions in power in Michigan.

Thursday afternoon, Representative Tom Leonard was elected by Republicans to be the next speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives.

Leonard is a second-term lawmaker and chairs the House Insurance Committee.        

He’s also served as an assistant state attorney general and a prosecutor in Genesee County.

Current Speaker Kevin Cotter, of Mount Pleasant, is leaving the House under term limits.
