Big Brothers Big Sisters Seeks Volunteers for Lunchbox Learners

A local organization is looking for adults of all ages to help kids learn to read.

Big brothers big sisters of the great lakes bay region needs volunteers for its lunchbox learners program.

They pair kids in fourth through sixth grades from Mary McGuire Elementary School in Mount Pleasant with volunteers.

Volunteers act as mentors who help the kids improve their reading comprehension, do homework, and provide personal support.

“The kids are referred to us by their teachers or by the principal,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters Site Supervisor Suzanna McGraw. “They’re just cited as kids that might need a little bit of something extra, whether it’s academic growth or personal growth.”

If you’re interested in signing up, then please call the Big Brothers Big Sisters office in Midland at 989-772-5232.
