Hook and Hunting: Preparing For Bow Hunting Season

October 1 is Saturday, meaning opening day for bow hunters is less than two days away.

This weekend is the first time archers can hunt for deer.

But before they head out, it’s important hunters of all ages check their bows after the long offseason.

in Cadillac says to make sure your strings and cables are ready for hunting.

They say your bow could have dry rotted while in storage, which could result in the bow hurting you.

“Peep rubbers, that’s another thing you want to check on your bow, because if they break they could snap you in the face. So, you’ll want to make sure they are fresh and not dry rotted,” explains owner Kim Fortelka.

Archery season goes until November 14.

Hunters are hoping this year’s deer hunting season will rebound after dealing with a subpar season last year.
