Traverse City Widow Creates Lending Library in Honor of Late Husband

A woman whose husband died is honoring him by gifting the Traverse City community.

Richard O’Neil died last year of glioblastoma.

He was a Boy Scout troop leader who loved the outdoors.

Now, his wife, Lori has donated a lending library in his name to the community.

It’s at the Grand Traverse Conservation District.

There are more than 300 books on subjects like birding, fishing, and survival.

“I was so distraught. I didn’t feel I was able to thank them properly. So this is my way of giving back to all those people who gave us love,” said Richard O’Neil’s Widow Lori O’Neil. “Giving that back and giving myself an opportunity to honor my husband.”

People can use books as field guides at the center, or take them home for two weeks at a time.
