Campgrounds in Grand Traverse County Heading for A Busy Labor Day Weekend

“So it’s gonna be a heck of a holiday for us,” says Dennis Penny, owner of Everflowing Water’s Campground.

Northern Michigan campgrounds are already bracing for a very busy Labor Day weekend.

In fact, some campgrounds have been booked for weeks, for this weekend in particular.

It’s one last “hoo-rah” for many families before the start of the school year.

9 and 10’s Megan Atwood checked with some local campgrounds who say a busy weekend lies ahead.

“Labor day is normally kind of weather dependent a little bit. As long as you have decent weather, people are going to come,” says Steve Hall, park manager at Holiday Park Campground.

Campgrounds in Northern Michigan ahead of Labor Day weekend…filling up, or already full.

He goes on, “The park is completely full. We’ve been full for a couple weeks so we’ve turned down quite a few people.”

Steve Hall is the Park Manager at Holiday Park Campground in Traverse City, where all 217 sites are booked for this weekend. He says he’s never seen spots for the Labor Day weekend fill up so fast.

“Being full this early this year is a little bit abnormal but this summer has been incredible as a whole so it’s no surprise that this weekend is going to be extremely busy as well.”

He says it’s all weather dependent, but many families try to get away one last time.

“The weekend looks like the weather is going to be outstanding so there is going to be a lot of people coming to northern Michigan for the last family get away of the year,” finishes Hall.

Dennis Penney agrees. He’s owned this campground in Williamsburg for seventeen years and this weekend’s looking good.

Dennis says, “For us is going to be outstanding on paper, and you know 95% of the people show up. And on paper I’ve got 35 to 38 entries right now and I get 4 to 5 calls a day.”

Campgrounds ending their summer season strong…And full.
