Michigan State Police Investigating Double Homicide in Montmorency County
Michigan State Police Alpena Post investigating a double homicide in Montmorency County.
Troopers say they got a call around 4 Saturday morning from a residence saying someone just broke into their house in Hillman and was assaulting people.
When police arrived to the house on County Road 459 they found an erratic half clothed man walking around the property with injuries. They ended up having to taser the man and took him into custody.
Inside the home, police found three people with varying degrees of injuries. Keith Atkinson, Debra Wells, and Jeffrey Baur were taken to the hospital. Atkinson died on the way to the hospital. Police say Wells sustained severe injuries in the attack while Baur was treated and released from the hospital.
When a trooper was securing the scene, a neighbor told them about another possible crime scene across the street. Troopers found the body of Trevor Hubbard outside his residence. They also found a vehicle rolled over in the driveway which they believe belonged to the man arrested for the initial attack.
The investigation consists of several law enforcement agencies and they believe the person arrested is responsible for the homicides and attacks and believe drugs played a factor in the suspect’s actions.
They would like to tell the public the situation is under control and there is no threat to the area.
