Sightseeing in Northern Michigan: Musician Jake Allen

People around Northern Michigan who have seen the band, The Cookies, love their Motown and dance sound but you may be surprised to find out the guy on the drums is anything than just the drummer.

As chief photojournalist Corey Adkins found out, he also has a promising solo career…meet Jake Allen.

“I started at a really young age I was 4-5 when I started playing keyboards and I was picking up all the tricks that my Dad was doing in the studio and recording and using the studio as an instrument itself.

"I got my first bass guitar when I was about 13 and then I said I needed more strings and picked up a 6 string and pretty much have been sticking to that as my main instrument.

"I was about 15 when I decided it was something I wanted to do as a career and decided making albums was important to me and it was something I’d be doing for the rest of my life so here I am on album number four and I don’t see a stop.

"I think it’s more important now than it’s ever been. I feel like the times for music right now are kind of turbulent and it’s really going to be the independent artists that make it special…and give these people their ears because there’s a lot of great artists especially around Northern Michigan who have a lot of really great messages and great music to share and I’m just one of them and if I can provide an escape for somebody or relax somebody a with a guitar melody then that’s enough for me,” says musician Jake Allen.
