Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Armed Robbery

The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate an armed robbery at a church parking lot.

Deputies arrested two men after they beat another man with a wrench.

The Leelanau County sheriff says a man was supposed to meet his ex-girlfriend at a church parking lot in Elmwood Township.

When he got there, two men punched him and hit him several times with a wrench.

The victim had a knife on him and stabbed one of the attackers.

As of this morning, the victim was recovering from non-life-threatening injuries in the hospital.

The man who was stabbed was also hospitalized Friday morning with wounds to the chest, face and arm.

The sheriff’s office says it’s a suspicious situation.

“So around 4 o’clock in the morning they’re meeting at a church parking lot obviously no one was at the church. At a relatively lightly traveled area in the county,” says Leelanau County Sheriff Mike Borkovich. “So we’re really not sure why they were there. What they were doing, but the assaults did occur after the initial contact.”

The men were arrested for armed robbery and assault.

The sheriff’s office says they’ll release more details after they’re done with the investigation.
