Traverse City Bookstore Hosts Harry Potter Party

Fans in love with the book series Harry Potter had a new reason to celebrate Saturday night—and celebrate they did.

Nine years after the last book came out, Harry Potter’s realm received a new addition with a script for a stage play called "Harry Potter and Cursed Child."

The book was unveiled at midnight Saturday night, with some bookstores hosting parties to honor the occasion.

Horizon’s Bookstore in Traverse City never closed.

Instead they had food and entertainment all night until the big reveal.

Sales Manager Amy Reynolds said actors from the Old Town Playhouse played some of the series most beloved characters, including McGonagall, Hagrid and Dumbledore.

"When the book was unveiled, and I will tell you that book sellers couldn’t even open the box until midnight, it was a cheer that went up, so we ripped off the cloth and showed the book and there was a big hoorah," Reynolds said. "It was really exciting, there was a real electricity in the air. Or should I say magic?"

The book is not written like JK Rowling’s other seven novels, but is instead written in play script form by two playwrights, with input from Rowling herself.
