GRAYLING — Christophe Proulx and Ryan Halstead defeated Andrew Triebold and Jacob DuBois by one second on Sunday to win the AuSable River Canoe Marathon. It’s the first time Triebold hasn’t won the marathon since 2007.
Proulx and Halstead were the first to get into the water after the Le Mans Style start and sat in second place after passing Burton’s Landing. They started to make their move at the Wakeley Bridge when they took the lead over Triebold and DuBois.
The two teams battled back and forth, with Proulx and Halstead crossing the Oscoda Finish in 14:29:26, while Triebold and DuBois finished in 14:29:27.
Mathieu Pellerin and Guillaume Blais, who had the best time during the time trial sprints and won the Triple Crown of Canoe Racing last year, finished in third place with a time of 14:48:16.
