Stoops, Beach Bums Shut Out Freedom

TRAVERSE CITY – Behind a dominating performance on the mound from starter Dylan Stoops, the Traverse City Beach Bums shut out the Florence Freedom, 5-0, at Wuerfel Park on Wednesday.

Stoops allowed just two hits and struck out six over six innings of work before giving way to reliever to Jacob Lanning, who surrendered only two hits over the final three innings.

Leading 1-0 after the first, Traverse City’s Giancarlo Brugnoni put the Beach Bums (27-35) ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the second on a two-run home run, scoring Christian Santisteban.

Steven Patterson would tack on an insurance run on a solo home run in the third.

Marcos Derkes led the Beach Bums at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.

Traverse City will go for the series sweep Thursday.

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
