Sault Ste. Marie Home for Patients with Dementia Receives Big Donations
A new home for patients with dementia in the Upper Peninsula is getting some big support from the community.
The Merlin Home in Sault Ste. Marie just opened in June.
Jill Lundquist had donated 200 shares of Google stock to the home in the fall.
Now, Robert and Helen Ball have kicked in the $160,000 needed to pay off the home’s mortgage.
The Merlin Home says the support from the community is proof of the need for the home in the area.
"It’s been a great, humbling experience and we couldn’t be more proud of people from the community that have been as generous as the two families," Superior Health Support System president Tracey Holt said.
The Merlin Home hopes to provide a way for people to stay in the area close to loved ones.
