Muskegon River Drowning Has Police Reminding People About Water Safety

A man’s body found in Muskegon River over the weekend has police reminding everyone to be safe and alert while they’re in the water.

The Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office says Kevin Tejchma’s body was found Saturday at a portion of the river in Bridgeton Township.

Deputies say his friends found him underwater and brought him to shore with help from police.

They say he was tubing down the river.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A canoe business nearby says you need to always use common sense while you’re in the river.

“We encourage people to be responsible when they are on the water. Obviously enjoy themselves and have a good time, but keep in the back of their head they are dealing with something that they are not in control of and they need to use common sense and have accountability for what they are in,” says Adam Trites, owner of Sawmill Canoe Livery.

The Canoe Livery would like to have people be aware of their surroundings on the river and to wear a life jacket.
