Northern Michigan Physical Therapist Accused of Health Care Fraud
A Northern Michigan physical therapist is accused of heath care fraud.
The Ogemaw County prosecutor announced the charges against Vijay Kumar Thursday in West Branch.
Vijay Kumar has been charged by complaint of three counts of health care fraud, one count of Medicaid fraud and four counts of intentionally placing false information on a chart by a health care provider.
Kumar is also running for State Representative for the 103rd District, which includes Kalkaska, Missaukee, Crawford, Roscommon and Ogemaw counties.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Michigan State Police and other agencies investigated the complaints involving five physical therapy businesses owned and operated by Kumar.
The businesses include Adapt Physical Therapy in West Branch, Adapt Physical Therapy in Prescott, Agility Physical Therapy in Rose City, Agility Physical Therapy in Hale and Agility Physical Therapy in St. Helen.
On Thursday, Kumar was arraigned on the fraud charges in Ogemaw County.
Kumar is also facing charges of second degree Criminal Sexual Conduct from last July.
Police say he used his position to commit a sex crime against a minor.
