Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore Extends Heritage Trail

Friday the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore celebrated a new addition to their Heritage Trail.

The idea of a bike trail at the park started back in 2009.

The first part of the trail was created in 2010 and with the help of TART Trails, the park has been able to add more every year.

This year they added another 3.8 miles.

Deputy Superintendent Tom Ulrich says it’s a way to enhance the Sleeping Bear experience. “What we’re also finding is people are coming to the park and they’re changing the nature of their visit; some are coming just to ride the trail who otherwise wouldn’t already come or they were coming anyway but now they know bring the bikes we can have fun at the park on our bikes.”

The trail only needs seven more miles to complete its 27 mile goal.
