Wexford County Holds Blood Drives In Honor Of World Blood Donor Day

“I would encourage others to give. It is a wonderful thing.”

It’s World Blood Donor Day, and the people of Northern Michigan are doing their part to lend a hand.

This year’s theme is "Blood Connects Us All."

With situations like the shootings in Orlando and similar mass casualty situations, the American Red Cross is a reliable source to donate blood, with locations all over Michigan.

Over the two days since tragedy played out more than a thousand miles away, the people of Cadillac have come together to do their part, by donating a pint.

Nurses working with the Red Cross say it’s great to see everyone lending a hand.

“There’s a lot of different circumstances that bring people out, but it is awesome to see that the public’s desire to support the Red Cross and saving lives. That’s what it’s all about,” says American Red Cross Nurse, Kelly White

According to the Red Cross, blood donors must be in good general health, at least 17 years old in most states and must weigh at least 110 pounds.
