Pipeline Bill Aimed At Protecting Great Lakes Headed To President’s Desk

A new pipeline bill that would protect the Great Lakes from oil leaks and spills is on its way to the president’s desk.

There are several provisions provided in the bill.

One makes the Great Lakes a high consequence area, making safety standards higher.

Another makes oil spill response plans address what to do if the area is frozen over.

The Government Accountability Office would also be required to inspect the pipelines.

The president has signed other legislation about the Great Lakes earlier this year. This bill is expected to pass.
