A Traverse City man working at an overseas air base died after falling from the roof of his apartment.

Investigators say Thaddeus Borowicz was trying to get inside his 10th floor window by using an electrical cable tied to a chimney.

He had been locked out.

Borowicz is from Traverse City.

He was a fire chief at the Incirlik Air Base in Turkey.

The base is used by U.S. fighter jets to conduct airstrikes against the Islamic State group in Syria.

A funeral is being planned in Traverse City.
