Stehouwer Free Clinic in Cadillac Receives Grant to Help Women Struggling to Get Healthcare

A Wexford County clinic that helps people who can’t afford health insurance, co-pays or deductibles just got a grant to continue its work.

The Cadillac Area Women’s Giving Circle awarded a $3,000 grant to the Stehouwer Free Clinic.

The money will specifically help women in Wexford and Missaukee counties who are struggling to get healthcare.

The Stehouwer Free Clinic will also look at other needs area women have that may be an obstacle to healthcare.

“So we might be able to help transportation needs, we might be able to help them pay a bill that’s past due somewhere,” says Cheryl Bader, director of the Stehouwer Free Clinic. “So it gives us a lot of freedom to really find out what’s keeping them from getting good medical care.”

The clinic serves about 500 people every year.
