Ogemaw County Log Cabin Destroyed by Fire

A house fire kept crews busy this afternoon.

Despite their efforts, someone’s log cabin is gone.

The cabin fire started shortly after 2 p.m. today on Jack Morris Road south of West Branch in Ogemaw County.

This is what firefighters saw when they got there.

Flames were already scorching through the roof.

A nearby garage door melted and several trees started to burn.

Thankfully, crews kept the fire from spreading.

"This could have been really tragic," says Todd Thompson, fire fighter with Ogemaw Fire Department. "It’s been dry and it just could’ve gotten loose. You never know what can happen and just thank God nobody was in the home."

The owner was not home and did not get hurt…but arrived while crews continued to put out the fire.

They are still looking into what caused it.
