Calhoun County Couple Found Dead in Backyard

A downstate sheriff’s deputy and his wife were found dead in their backyard.

Emmett Township Police Chief Mike Olson says a family member found the pair before eight Sunday morning in Calhoun County.

Police say both died from gunshot wounds, and a handgun was found nearby.

Police aren’t sure of a motive right now, but they’re looking into several possibilities, including murder-suicide.

The names have not been released, but the sheriff says the deputy worked with the department for 18 years.
