May Numbers Show Decrease in U.S. Auto Sales

May is usually one of the strongest months of the year for U.S. auto sales, but not this year.

Automakers released their latest figures Wednesday.

Compared with the same month a year ago, General Motors sales are down 18%.

Ford’s is down 6%, Toyota’s dropped 10%, Volkswagen 17% and Nissan is down 1%.

The only winner for the month of May is Fiat Chrysler, up 1%.

Experts think the declines could be a sign U.S. auto sales are finally reaching a plateau after six straight years of growth.

That sort of streak hasn’t been seen since the 1920’s.
