Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office Welcome New K-9

There’s a new member of the Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office.

Meet Dex.

Dex is their new dual purpose K-9.

The German Shepherd joined the sheriff’s office earlier this year.

He works as a narcotics dog but also does suspect apprehensions, article searches and missing persons cases.

He and his handler wrapped up five weeks of training down state and have hit the ground running.

“We were involved in a lot of TNT organized stuff. So we found a lot of drugs. We really found a lot of stuff right off the bat,” says deputy Michael Gray. “It’s a work in progress. This next year is very important to him, and me to get him acclimated to the road, his everyday routine. After about a year he’s gonna find his grove and he’s he’ll be a rock star.”

Deputy Gray has been with the sheriff’s office for five years and says he’s enjoying his new role and getting to work with Dex.
