Hook & Hunting: Bear and Elk Permits

If you’re looking to test your luck with a bear or elk hunting permit, the clock is ticking.

The deadline to get your application in is June 1.

Roy’s General Store in Traverse City says they’ve already seen a huge number of applicants come in.

The state only gives out a certain number of permits each year, and due to the high amount of interest, they turn to a lottery system.

“We’ve got schools and business and five lanes of traffic but within five miles of here people come in and tell us they’ve seen bear right in their backyards. Just about a 45 minute drive from here you’d be in the area to hunt elk just up towards Antrim County,” says Rob Hentschel, manager of Roy’s General Store.

The drawing results will be posted on June 29.
