Michigan Senator Wants to Stop Transgender Students From Choosing Bathrooms

A Michigan senator wants to introduce Legislation that would force transgender students to use bathrooms that coincide with their birth certificate gender.

Tom Casperson still wants the change despite intense fallout other states have seen after passing similar laws. The senator wants to block the board of education’s proposal to allow transgender students to choose which bathrooms and locker rooms they use.

Education officials say the legislation could damage young students and ostracize others who are already more at risk for bullying and depression.

The board of education says their goal is a comfortable, safe area for everyone.
