Cadillac Firefighters Responded To Tanker Truck Fire, Prevent Potential Fuel Spill
Quick response from fire crews helped prevent a potentially large fuel spill after a tanker truck caught fire.
It happened around 4:15 Friday morning on the northbound off-ramp of US 131 at exit 180 in Cadillac.
The Cadillac Fire Department responded to a call of a loaded fuel tanker truck on fire.
The truck was carrying about 9,000 gallons of diesel fuel.
Firefighters arrived on scene within seven minutes and were able to cool the tank and put out the flames.
The Cadillac Fire Department says the trunk was traveling from the Grand Rapids area when a failure caused the brakes to overheat and catch fire. Then, the trucks tires ignited.
The double-wall design of the tank kept the flames from reaching the fuel, preventing a potentially large spill.
The Cadillac Fire Department says there was no damage to the environment and the driver was not hurt.
