A special honor tonight for the family of a fallen veteran in Missaukee County.

Tonight the brother and sister-in-law of Doctor Timothy Bloomster were presented with medals for his service.

The special event took place at the American Legion Post in Lake City.

Timothy was in the Army and served in Vietnam.

He joined in 1965 and was Honorably Discharged in 1968.

He passed away in 1997.

Today, Congressman John Moolenaar presented Tim’s brother, Peter and sister-in-law, Shirley with nine medals for his service in Vietnam.

They say it’s a remarkable honor to receive them on his behalf.

“It is an honor because it was a time long ago and it’s late in coming but it sure is due. He deserved these things, he’d been through combat, he did a lot for our country and I’m really grateful to get these for him,” said Peter.

It’s an honor to in any way participate in recognizing the service of those who have honorably represented our country, fought for our country, fought for the freedoms we enjoy,” said Moolenaar.

This is the second day in a row that Congressman Moolenaar honored Vietnam Veterans and their families in Northern Michigan.
