Pierson Man Accused of Falsely Reporting Crime To Police

A Pierson man is in trouble after deputies say he falsely reported a crime to police.

It happened on March 21 in Grant Township.

The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office says Jonathan Cross told deputies someone took him and tied him to a tree in the Haymarsh Campground for 36 hours.

Deputies say they found no evidence to support the story and a medical exam did not reveal any signs of injury.

Deputies also say video footage from a local store shows Cross buying the rope he claimed to have been tied up with. They also say at the time he purchased the rope, he had claimed to have already been tied to the tree for over six hours.

Cross is charged with falsely reporting a felony to police.

He is currently being held at the Mecosta County Jail.
