Kalkaska Memorial Hospital to Host Safe Sharps Disposal Day

A local hospital is offering a safe way to throw out your medical sharps.

Kalkaska Memorial Hospital is collecting medical sharps this Wednesday.

If you have lancets, syringes or needles, you can bring them in laundry detergent jugs, metal coffee cans or medical sharps containers.

The hospital had its first Community Safe Sharps Disposal Day in the winter after they found sharps were not being disposed of properly in the area.

“A lot of people were finding them out in the woods, out on our trails. People were saying ‘Gosh, I have a buildup in my garage’ or ‘I’m burning them.’ And we said as a community hospital, what can we do to help people?’” Administrative Director of Marketing Laura Zingg said.

Wednesday’s disposal day will go from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
